Især sange som “Unless it’s Kicks”, “Plus Ones”, “The Latest Toughs”, “Black” (hvor jeg elsker når Will skriger You should wreck his life the way that he wrecked yours) og naturligvis den dystre og maniske “For Real” blev spillet med stor indlevelse og tilstedeværelse.
When Flaming Lips released At War with the Mystics and after seeing their fantastic live show, I would never have thought that they wouldn’t be on my top 10 list of favorite album of 2006. But this proved to be the case after a year with a buck load of terrific albums with superb music.
My Latest Novel released at unique debut and it took me several considerations not to give it the top spot. But Black Holes And Revelations contained super summer hits for the whole year – even wintertime. An achievement which was impossible to overlook. Their personal mixture of indie rock, electronica, progressive rock and heavy metal really came into it’s own on this album.
The Decemberists takes indie pop even further wth The Crane Wife. Based on an old Japanese tale, the album is a huge ambitious project that succeeds in every way. This stuff really grows on you.
The Thermals, The Mondo Generator and Cursive RUBAR (Rock Us Beyond All Recognition) and takes no prisoners. (Yes, I have seen Saving Private Ryan recently.)
No more talking. Here they are, my favorite albums of 2006:
Muse – Black Holes And Revelations
My Latest Novel – Wolves
The Decemberists – The Crane Wife
The Thermals – The Body, the Blood, the Machine
Tunng – Comments of the Inner Chorus
The Mondo Generator – Dead Planet: SonicSlowMotionTrails
Cursive – Happy Hollow
Ratatat – Ratatat: Classics
Guillemots – Through the Window Pane
Band of Horses – Everything All the Time
The year 2006 wouldn’t be complete without listening to Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Show Your Bones, TV On The Radio – Return to Cookie Mountain, The Flaming Lips – At War With the Mystics, Swan Lake – Beast Moans, Annuals – Be He Me, Midlake – The Trials of van Occupanther, Loose Fur – Born Again in the USA
The little secret behind the Illinois record is that it was originally conceived as a double album, culminating in a musical collage of nearly 50 songs. But as the project began to develop into an unwieldy epic, common sense weighed in—as did the opinions of others—and the project was cut in half. [...] The gathering that followed would become the setting for the songs on The Avalanche: Outtakes and Extras from the Illinois Album.
After much consideration, here’s my list of favorite albums released in 2005.

A logo is the visual cornerstone of one’s branding. While some logos are complex, often the most memorable ones are those that are simplistic. Instead of relying on detailed graphics and icons, these minimal logos rely on creative typography, simple shapes, and clever negative space to tell the story. Here is a showcase of 30 minimal logo designs that say mo […]
Kan man skyde skyde med spredehagl og blande shoegaze, psych, indie og prog og slippe fra det? Ja, hvis man gør det så medrivende som på canadiernes fremragende opfølger.
I’m usually a flag waver for artistic vision rather than gear or the tools of our craft, but this calls for an exception: just minutes ago Apple announced the much anticipated Aperture 3.0. And it’s the bomb. I’m lucky enough to have been using it for several months now. There’s few things I think photographers will want to know about this new release. First, […]
One of the most famous print collection in the world was this week acquired by the private investment arm of computer man Michael Dell. All told, over 185,000 photographs from the likes of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa, Elliott Erwitt, Ernst Haas and Eve Arnold were unloaded. I was shocked. I couldn't find details of the actual sales price, only es […]
